Chronology of Diplomatic Relations
Diplomatic relations between Georgia and the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg were established on October 17, 1994.
Main Fields of Cooperation
Georgia and the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg enjoy friendly relations. Their cooperation within international organizations is very dynamic. Luxemburg supports Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and shares the policy of the non-recognition of occupied regions. Luxemburg continuously supports the resolution on the status of internally displaced persons and refugees referred by Georgia to the UN General Assembly annually. In addition, Luxemburg was the co-sponsor of this resolution in 2019.
It's worth mentioning that in 2018 Mr. Jean Asselborn, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg paid an official visit to Georgia. In 2019, the Vice-Premier and the Minister of Justice of Luxemburg, Mr. Felix Braz visited Georgia.
In 2018, Ms. Sophie Katsarava, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament of Georgia visited Luxemburg and met with the Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign and European Affairs, Defense, International Aid, and Immigration of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg.
Five agreements have been signed between the two countries which allow developing cooperation in the fields of economy, transport, and defense.
Lately, both countries have expressed a desire to develop bilateral trade and economic relations. Cooperation in the banking and financial sectors is especially enhanced. Expert level collaboration is particularly active with Luxembourg Financial Technology Transfer Agency (ATTF).
