Vakhtang Makharoblishvili met with the Permanent Representative of Spain to the European Union Marcos Alonso Alonso
On February 15, 2024, the Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Head of the Mission of Georgia to the European Union, H.E. Vakhtang Makharoblishvili met with the Permanent Representative of Spain to the European Union, H.E. Marcos Alonso Alonso.
Ambassador Makharoblishvili recalled that the historic decision on granting Georgia the EU candidate status was made during the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union which is much appreciated by Georgia and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ambassador Alonso for his support and cooperation.
During the meeting, discussions primarily focused on Georgia’s EU accession process, steps implemented and future plans in this regard. Ambassador Makharoblishvili reiterated that Georgia is fully committed to continue its intensive efforts in order to achieve further progress on the EU accession path. In this context, Ambassador briefed his Spanish counterpart about the implementation process of the nine steps defined by the European Commission.
The Ambassadors also reviewed the current situation and challenges facing the region.
