ILIA DARCHIASHVILI MET THE EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER PAOLO GENTILONI
As part of his working visit to Strasbourg, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili, held a
meeting with the European Commissioner for Economy, Paolo Gentiloni.
Discussions focused on the implementation of the European Commission’s 12 recommendations by
Georgia. The Minister provided the European Commissioner with comprehensive information about the
steps taken by Georgia in this regard. Ilia Darchiashvili expressed the hope that Georgia’s efforts will be
evaluated accordingly and the country will be granted a candidate status.
It was highlighted that the reforms are carried out in close cooperation with the relevant institutions of
the European Union, based on the recommendations of the Venice Commission and the OSCE/ODIHR.
The sides highlighted the importance of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with the
European Union for the development of the business sector of Georgia.
The sides also emphasized the need for sectoral integration with the European Union and paid special
attention to the importance of Georgia's full integration into the European single market.
The sides also talked about prospects for the further strengthening of cooperation.
