Accredited to the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg and the European Union (Permanent Representation of Georgia, Brussels)

On November 24, 2023 Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Head of the Mission of Georgia to the European Union, H.E. Vakhtang Makharoblishvili met with the Deputy Secretary General of European External Action Service (EEAS) for Peace, Security and Defence, Mr. Charles Fries.
 
During the meeting, Ambassador Makharoblishvili emphasized the importance of the European Commission's recommendation to grant Georgia candidate status and confirmed to the Deputy Secretary General the readiness of the Georgian side to continue its efforts, in order to take another decisive step on the way to join the European Union and officially become EU candidate country by the end of the year.
 
At the meeting, Ambassador drew attention to Russia’s ongoing occupation of the Georgian regions and the killing of a Georgian citizen in village Kirbali, in the vicinity of occupation line. The parties also discussed regional security issues, Georgia's contribution to the Common Security and Defense Policy (CSDP) missions, the role of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in promoting peace and security in Georgia, Georgia-EU Strategic Security Dialogue and cooperation in the field of defence.
