Vakhtang Makharoblishvili met with Major General Bettina Patricia Boughani
Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Head of the Georgian Mission to the European Union Vakhtang Makharoblishvili held an introductory meeting with the newly appointed Head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia, Major General Bettina Patricia Boughani.
At the meeting, Bettina Boughani congratulated Vakhtang Makharoblishvili on granting Georgia the EU candidate status. In this context, the sides emphasized the historical significance of the decision made by the European Council in December 2023 and also discussed issues related to Georgia's accession to the European Union.
During the meeting, the Ambassador drew attention to Russia’s occupation of the Georgian regions and the situation in the occupied territories. The parties also discussed the role of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) in the process of promoting peace and security in Georgia; The 60th round of Geneva International Discussions; the necessity of full implementation of the provisions of the EU-mediated 12 August 2008 Ceasefire Agreement by Russian Federation, and the safe and dignified return of IDPs.
At the meeting, the sides also emphasized the importance of the EU Political and Security Committee (PSC) delegation’s visit to Georgia on April 9-11, 2024.
