Georgia’s First Honorary Consulate Opens in Luxembourg
On 18 June 2025 an event marking the opening of Georgia’s first Honorary Consulate in Luxembourg was held.
The event was co-organized by the Honorary Consul of Georgia in Luxembourg, Mr. Peter Sodermans and the Embassy of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Mission of Georgia to the European Union.
The Ambassador of Georgia H.E. Vakhtang Makharoblishvili addressed the guests and officially introduced Mr. Peter Sodermans - the first Honorary Consul of Georgia in Luxembourg. In his remarks, Ambassador highlighted the bilateral relations between Georgia and Luxembourg and underscored the significance of establishing the Honorary Consulate. He emphasized that this new representation would contribute to further enhancing business ties as well as cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two nations.
Mr. Peter Sodermans reflected on the existing ties between Georgia and Luxembourg and outlined the potential for expanding economic and business cooperation. In this context, the Honorary Consul also presented his future initiatives to the audience.
The Ambassador and the Honorary Consul also took the opportunity to extend their congratulations to the guests on the occasion of Independence Day of Georgia, celebrated on May 26 and the National Day of Luxembourg, celebrated on June 23.
Peter Sodermans is a successful Luxembourgish businessman who has made an important contribution to the development of the country’s international trade. He currently leads his own consulting firm, Direct Engineering sàrl, and previously served as an external advisor to the Luxembourg government for 12 years.
The event was attended by representatives of the government, members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Luxembourg, business leaders and members of the Georgian diaspora.
