Ambassador Vakhtang Makharoblishvili hosted the Representatives of the Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST)

On September 20, 2022, the Ambassador of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Head of the Mission of Georgia to the EU, Vakhtang Makharoblishvili hosted the Representatives of the Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST).

Core topics of Georgia-EU relations, including the recent historic decision of the European Council granting the European Perspective to Georgia were discussed at the meeting. Vakhtang Makharoblishvili briefed COEST delegates on the implementation process of the 12 priorities defined by the European Commission as well as on the activities of the relevant Working Groups created in the Georgian Parliament. The Ambassador talked about the implementation of the Association Agreement including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) and informed about the progress on the approximation of Georgia’s legislation with the EU acquis.

At the meeting, special attention was paid to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, grave regional security situation, and its impact on Georgia. The Ambassador talked about the situation in the occupied territories of Georgia and security challenges on the ground. 

It is noteworthy that the meeting with the COEST delegates took place ahead of their upcoming visit to Georgia.
